Position Description

Concordia University is now seeking applicants for the position of full-time Staff Instructor in the School of Nursing at the CUW Mequon, WI campus. This person will have instructional responsibilities within the undergraduate nursing programs, including teaching didactic courses and clinical sections, as well as assisting with simulation and skills lab teaching and evaluation. This is an instructional staff position and does not confer faculty status. This is a 12-month position. Hours are equivalent to 40 hours per week, however they may include some evening or weekend teaching responsibilities. The Staff Instructor will report to the Undergraduate Program Chairperson for the School of Nursing.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

General teaching duties:

  • Maintains current knowledge of nursing theory and practice within the area of assigned teaching responsibility.
  • Teaches course content aligned with course objectives.
  • Plans, administers and evaluates student assignments.
  • Provides frequent constructive feedback to students on course performance.
  • Maintains current records of student performance in Blackboard.
  • Evaluates course experiences at end of semester and shares recommendations with program faculty, staff and leadership.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Clinical Responsibilities:
  • Reviews content presented in respective theory course for fit with clinical activities.
  • Assures safe clinical practices by students.
  • Evaluates students' written assignments and level of clinical competency in the clinical setting.
  • Simulation Lab teaching:
  • Maintains competence in specific simulation modalities and simulation scenario content areas.
  • Reviews content presented in respective theory course for fit with identified simulation activities.
  • Evaluates students' written, verbal and performance in the lab.
  • Skills Lab teaching:
  • Maintains competence in psychomotor and health assessment skills within the area of teaching responsibility.
  • Reviews content presented in respective theory course for fit with identified skills lab activities.
  • Evaluates students' written, verbal and performance in the lab.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Competence in fundamental nursing psychomotor, health assessment, and clinical skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in using simulation preferred
  • Ability to work independently and within teams

Education & Experience

  • Master's degree in nursing required
  • Current RN licensure in the State of Wisconsin
  • Minimum of two years of experience as an RN
  • RN work experience within the last two years in a medical or surgical setting
