Concordia University is seeking an administrator to direct the English Language Institute at its Mequon campus. The successful candidate will lead the ELI and collaborate with various academic and administrative units of the university in order to recruit, serve and retain international students. This is a full-time, exempt staff position.   The Director reports to the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences. The Director also reports to the Executive Director of International Education for recruitment programs and off-shore initiatives. This position is located in the Concordia International Center, Mequon, WI.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily oversight of all program operations
  • Create atmosphere that models and promotes contemporary best practices and innovation in curriculum and programming
  • Cultivate a nurturing academic environment for students
  • Hire, train, review and foster the professional development of instructional staff
  • Oversee the orientation, placement and assessment of students
  • Develop and implement short term English/culture camp programs that meet participant English language learning requirements ranging from entry level to higher education and professional development
  • All other related activities as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Prior experience in ESL intensive and/or immersion program administration
  • Experience living and working abroad in a non-English speaking country
  • Ability to develop and/or identify appropriate classroom materials and/or teaching tools
  • Record of ongoing professional development, collaboration, and innovation
  • Demonstrated successful program development and leadership
  • Program Assessment experience
  • Command of the English Language at the level of a native speaker
  • Excellent professional cross-cultural communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to respond quickly to develop and implement customized programs
  • Ability to embrace Concordia University's mission to develop students in "Mind, Body, Spirit for service to Christ, the Church, and the World".
  • Available to work evenings and weekends

Education and Experience Master's in Teaching English as a Second Language (T.E.S.L.), applied Linguistics or related field required. Preferred: Five years teaching experience in intensive English or academic English preparation program in a higher education setting where English is the language of instruction. Experience teaching ESL/EFL abroad is also preferred.

Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time position. Starting range is dependent upon on individual qualifications and experience.
