Concordia University seeks applicants for a full-time faculty position in Theology as director of a new program in Church Ministries (formerly Lay Ministry), beginning January 2018 on the Mequon campus, pending final approval from the board of regents. This position is in the Department of Theology in the School of Arts and Sciences. Minorities are encouraged to apply.

  • Teaching courses such as Christian Care Giving, Youth Ministry, Office of the Professional Church Worker, Christian Faith, and other courses as needed for the programs of the department
  • Directing online cohorts of students
  • Supervising internships and practica
  • Advising students
  • Arranging placement of candidates
  • Recruiting students for the program
  • Overseeing curriculum
  • Performing scholarship and service
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent teaching ability in a wide range of theological courses to a wide range of students, including traditional undergraduates as well as adult learners and online students
  • Ability to work well with colleagues
  • Ability to work effectively with students from other countries and religions

 Education and Experience

  • Status as an ordained minister of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod or of a sister synod in fellowship with the LCMS required
  • A completed or nearly completed doctorate in practical theology or a related field required
  • Pastoral experience working with volunteers, diverse cultural experience preferred 
  • Experience in a business environment preferred
  • Refereed publications in practical theology preferred

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, faculty, exempt position. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications, education, and experience.
