Concordia University invites applications for the full-time faculty position of Campus Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences located at the Ann Arbor, MI campus (CUAA).  Concordia University seeks individuals dedicated to excellence and to the mission of "developing students in mind, body and spirit for service to Christ in the Church and the world." In support of Concordia's mission, the Campus Dean will fulfill the functions of all campus deans as described in the Faculty Handbook and will coordinate activities with other campus deans and the AVP of Academics for CUAA. The Campus Dean oversees the various academic programs offered by the School of Arts and Sciences and will also help recruit and evaluate faculty, write and supervise grants in support of programs, and support and communicate the vision of Concordia University. This position reports directly to the University Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at the Mequon, WI campus.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Represents the School of Arts and Sciences on the Ann Arbor campus
  • Collaborates with department chairs to oversee the following departments at CUAA: Art, Communication, Computer Science, English, Mathematics, Modern Languages, Music, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Theology, Philosophy, Liberal Arts Core, Theater
  • Alerts the Vice-Provost of Faculty Affairs and Dean to future personnel needs in the school, and participates in the process of securing qualified personnel to meet those needs
  • Develops class schedules and instructional assignments, calls and presides over meetings of the School, and leads the faculty with respect to curricular needs, library holdings, instructional improvement, and other matters pertaining to the School
  • Arranges for class visitation of faculty in the School and reports to the Department Chair, Dean, and Vice-Provost of Faculty Affairs concerning such visitations
  • Collaborates with Department Chairs on faculty performance evaluations and to develop faculty performance evaluations and to develop faculty performance improvement plans when required
  • Provides leadership and guidance in program development and growth, promotes relevant student activities and encourages student organizations, is involved in recruiting students to Concordia University
  • Takes leadership in the preparation of the budget after consultation with the faculty members and the University Dean, prepares a yearly budget and annual report, supervises requisitions and purchase orders, works with University Dean to prepare personnel and capital requests
  • Represents the CUAA School of Arts and Sciences on the Academic Council

Education and Experience

  • An earned doctorate in the area of instruction is required
  • Education and experience sufficient to hold the rank of Professor or Associate Professor in an academic discipline appropriate for School of Arts and Sciences
  • A record of peer-reviewed academic scholarship
  • Excellence in college teaching appropriate for a senior faculty position
  • Demonstrated leadership in higher education, including knowledge and experience with strategic planning and organizational leadership, relationship building with diverse constituent groups, budget and personnel management, accreditation, and Evidence of success in grant writing

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, faculty, exempt position. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications, education, and experience.  Concordia health, disability, and retirement plan enrollment is available to full-time employees and eligible dependents.  Tuition benefits are also available for employees and their qualified dependents.
