Concordia University seeks applicants for the full-time, exempt position of Assistant Cross Country and Track & Field Coach. The purpose of this position is to fulfill the university's mission to help students develop in mind, body and spirit by instructing student athletes, equipping them with strategies and techniques to help them realize success in athletics, academics and social experiences. This position is responsible for the following: the organization, coordination, supervision and implementation of the assigned sports program; the scouting and recruiting of players; and the well-being and safety of the players. This position is located on the Ann Arbor, MI campus and reports to the Ann Arbor Cross Country and Track & Field Head Coach.


  • May initiate, schedule, coordinate and conduct practices
  • Demonstrates Christian concern for athlete's academic, athletic, social and spiritual development
  • Provides a system for issuing athletic equipment to athletes and supervision of such equipment
  • Recruits athletes to sports program in coordination with Admission Department and Director of Athletics
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with alumni
  • Instructs and educates athletes in the sport
  • Coordinates with the Director of Athletics in management of home and away contests
  • Manage expenditures within the parameters of an approved budget
  • Abide by and enforce WHAC and NAIA rules
  • Other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in coaching Sprints/Hurdles or Throws and Cross Country at the collegiate level
  • Knowledge of NAIA and/or NCAA Rules and Regulations
  • Excellent organization, leadership, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of trends in sport and coaching
  • Knowledge of safety equipment and rules and regulations associated with sport
  • Frequent one-day, overnight and weekend travel required

Education and/or Training

A bachelor's degree is required, master's preferred. Significant and specific experience, skill set and/or training in area may be considered in lieu of degree requirements.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt position. Starting range is dependent upon individual qualifications and experience.
