This position is responsible for maintaining, testing and repairing electrical/electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components. Ability to apply knowledge of electrical/electronics and mechanical principles to determine equipment malfunctions and apply skills to restore equipment for operation is required. This is a part-time position with hours to be arranged.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical/ electronic and mechanical theories and principals, written , specifications, local and national electrical codes and principles of operation of electronic equipment
  • Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical/electronic equipment including but not limited to programmable controls, numeral controls, power supplies, drives, gages and test equipment
  • Installs, performs startups and shut downs of equipment in accordance with University safety procedures for activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements
  • Advises maintenance personnel of operation procedures and requirements for working safely with electrical/electronic and mechanical equipment and components
  • Informs the Director of Building and Grounds of potential electrical/mechanical problems and inherent dangers involved.
  • Maintains University required performance and maintenance records for identified equipment
  • Performs preventative maintenance functions as directed
  • Assist in other maintenance on an as needed basis
  • May perform other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in electrical work
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and ability to use safe work practices
  • Ability to care for assigned areas and equipment
  • Knowledge and ability to use a variety of building maintenance equipment, supplies and materials
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral directions
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments and follow a work schedule and work independently
  • Ability to climb in overhead structures, to work in confined spaces and in close quarters to perform analysis and repair work. 
  • Ability to move and lift heavy objects
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with faculty, staff and students 

Education and/or Training
High School diploma or its equivalent required. Two-year technical degree or accredited apprenticeship program or the equivalent in a technical field is required. Must have or ability to obtain Michigan Electrical license.

Compensation and Benefits
This is a part-time position. Starting range is dependent upon individual qualifications and experience. There are no Concordia Plan Benefits associated with this position.
