Concordia University seeks applications for the part-time, non-exempt position of Financial Aid Specialist. This position is responsible for providing support to the Financial Aid Office and for serving students attending courses online and at physical campuses in Wisconsin and Michigan. This position is located on the Mequon, Wisconsin campus and reports to the Assistant Director of Financial Aid.


  • Perform standard front desk office work, from greeting customers (written and verbal) to processing documents
  • Perform the verification process for all verified students, assess changes, and compliance testing
  • Submit verification corrections via FAA Access, and work with COD and NSLDS systems
  • Open communication with other Financial Aid staff regarding status of students being ready for packaging
  • Run daily MS Access reports for students to verify
  • Uses critical thinking skills to perform independent judgment when verifying students
  • Maintains knowledgeable of all federal title IV and state aid programs
  • Communicate regularly with staff, including attendance at period staff meetings and trainings
  • May perform other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, skills, abilities

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner
  • Knowledge and skill in performing basic office procedures and practices
  • Preferred experience in Microsoft Excel, Outlook and SCT Banner Financial Aid and XTender imaging software; or the ability and willingness to learn new technologies
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the University and maintain a positive service-oriented attitude
  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with students and their families when appropriate
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, organize work, and meet deadlines in a fast-pace demanding office setting
  • Ability to multi-task in an open floor concept
  • Ability to demonstrate ingenuity and prompt action in resolving problems

Education and Experience

  • Some college course work required, a degree is preferred
  • Three to five years of professional office work experience that includes an advanced level of computer skills, strong windows base, and the ability to learn integrated computer systems
  • Previous work in an academic setting, customer service setting, and/or experience with financial transactions and reconciliation are a plus

Compensation and Benefits

This is a part-time (up to 29.5 hours), non-exempt position. Starting wage is dependent upon individual qualifications and experience. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
